About the Site

Sacred Veils is a place for thoughtful reflection on Christianity, the Bible, and culture. The name of the site is inspired by the writings of Dionysius the Areopagite, a sixth-century disciple of Saint Paul who wrote under the pseudonym of Paul’s only named convert in Athens (Acts 17:34). Dionysius calls the scriptures and liturgies of the church “sacred veils,” which simultaneously reveal and conceal the divine light of God according to the capacity of each individual to perceive it (Celestial Hierarchy 1.2, 121B).
